Gontier attended Norwood District High School, where he met future bandmates Neil Sanderson and Brad Walst. The trio, along with Phil Crowe and Joe Grant, formed Groundswell in 1992. In 1997, they regrouped as Three Days Grace, signing with Jive Records in 2003. Their debut single, "I Hate Everything About You," and self-titled album topped the Canadian rock charts.
Three Days Grace released five studio albums, including "One-X" (2006), "Life Starts Now" (2009), and "Transit of Venus" (2012).
