Adrian Vowles, born on May 30, 1971, is a former professional rugby league footballer who left an indelible mark on the sport, predominantly playing as a loose forward or centre in the 1990s and 2000s.
Vowles hails from Cunnamulla, Queensland, where he spent his formative years playing junior rugby league for the Cunnamulla Rams. In 1982, his family relocated to Charleville, where he continued to hone his skills with the Charleville All Whites and Railways. During this period, Vowles won two premierships with the All Whites club and later secured a premiership with Charleville Railways in 1988.
In 1989, Vowles made the significant move to the Gold Coast, joining the Tweed Heads Seagulls. His impressive performances earned him a reserve grade trial with the Gold Coast Seagulls in 1990, subsequently leading to a contractual agreement with the club.
Vowles made his first-grade debut in Round 1 of the 1993 NSWRL season, playing against the Western Suburbs Magpies. He rapidly established himself as a key player, starting 21 games and receiving the coveted title of Player of the Year at the end of the season. In 1994, Vowles's exceptional form led to his selection for Queensland in Game II of the State of Origin series.
In 1995, Vowles took on the challenge of playing for the newly established North Queensland Cowboys, becoming an integral part of the team. He started at centre in the club's inaugural game against the Sydney Bulldogs and went on to play 20 games, captaining the side on three occasions. The following year, Vowles assumed the role of full-time captain, playing 21 games at centre and lock.
