Kaji's journey in professional football began in 1998 when he joined Cerezo Osaka, a Japanese professional football club, after graduating from Takigawa Daini High School. He was selected as a member of the 2006 J.League Best XI and contributed to the team's victory in the 2007 J.League Cup, 2008 and 2009 Emperors Cup, and the 2008 AFC Champions League. After eight years with Gamba Osaka, Kaji signed with Chivas USA, a Major League Soccer club, in 2014. However, due to the club's disbandment, he returned to Japan and joined Fagiano Okayama in 2015. Kaji eventually retired at the end of the 2017 season.
