Pitrelli's musical journey began at the prestigious Berklee College of Music in Boston, where he honed his skills alongside future Alice Cooper bandmate and keyboardist Derek Sherinian. During his time at Berklee, Pitrelli formed an original metal band with classmates, including Venom guitarist Mike Hickey, laying the groundwork for his future success.
After dropping out of Berklee, Pitrelli worked as a session musician and guitar teacher, performing with various acts, including Michael Bolton, Celine Dion, Asia, and Dee Snider. His first major label gig was with Michael Bolton, supporting his single "Fools Game." This experience marked the beginning of Pitrelli's ascension in the music industry.
