Born on February 5, 1987, in Ukraine, Kuznetsov moved to the United States with his family at the tender age of three, settling just outside Philadelphia. Under the guidance of coach Jason Katzer, Kuznetsov's junior career flourished, with a singles win-loss record of 67-27 and a doubles record of 50-21, propelling him to a combined junior world ranking of number 4 in July 2004.
Kuznetsov's promising junior career earned him a one-million-dollar sponsorship contract from Nike, which he accepted as soon as he turned pro. However, his career took a precarious turn soon after, as he was involved in a severe car accident that left him with a broken femur. Projected to take a full year to recover, Kuznetsov defied the odds, returning to tennis just six months later after undergoing a titanium rod insertion into his right thigh.
In July 2006, Kuznetsov claimed the singles title at the Comerica Challenger in Aptos, defeating Go Soeda. He also made appearances in the 2006 US Open, where he lost to Tommy Haas, and in the 2007 Australian Open, where he reached the second round, pushing James Blake to a thrilling encounter.
Kuznetsov currently resides in Tampa, Florida, where he trains at the Saddlebrook Resort Club alongside John Isner and Tim Smyczek. He is married and enjoys playing golf in his spare time. Notably, Kuznetsov is not related to Russian tennis players Svetlana Kuznetsova or Andrey Kuznetsov.
