Alexandre Giroux: The Tenacious Hockey Forward

A Legacy of Hard Work and Determination

Alexandre Giroux is a Canadian ice hockey forward known for his grit and perseverance on the ice. With a professional career spanning over a decade, Giroux has made a name for himself as a reliable and skilled player, having suited up for several teams in the National League, American Hockey League, and Quebec-based Ligue Nord-Américaine de Hockey.

A Humble Beginning

Born on June 16, 1981, Giroux's love for hockey was nurtured from a young age. As a youth, he played in the 1995 Quebec International Pee-Wee Hockey Tournament with a minor ice hockey team from Quebec City. This early exposure paved the way for his future success.

Journey to the Pros

Giroux's amateur career took off when he joined the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League's (QMJHL) Hull Olympiques in 1998-1999. He went on to play parts of three seasons with the club before joining the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies midway through the 2000-2001 season. During his junior career, Giroux registered an impressive 226 points (111 goals and 115 assists).

A Career of Ups and Downs

Drafted by the Ottawa Senators in 1999, Giroux failed to crack the NHL roster. He spent parts of three seasons in the Senators' system before a 2004 deadline deal sent him to the New York Rangers. Giroux would ultimately play only one game with the Rangers, spending most of his time with their farm team, the Hartford Wolf Pack. In the summer of 2006, Giroux signed as a free agent with the Washington Capitals. As a member of the Capitals, he spent most of his time with the club's AHL affiliate, the Hershey Bears, and appeared in a handful of games with Washington. The following summer, he signed as a free agent with the Atlanta Thrashers.

AHL Success and International Play

Giroux's time with the Chicago Wolves, the Thrashers' AHL affiliate, was marked by a prolific 19-goal, 41-point performance in 44 games. He was eventually traded back to the Capitals organization. In 2008-2009, Giroux represented Canada at the Spengler Cup, helping the team win a silver medal.

Later Years and Legacy

On August 5, 2009, Giroux signed a one-year, two-way contract to remain with the Hershey Bears. He went on to play for HC Ambrì-Piotta and EHC Kloten in the National League, before joining the Thetford Assurancia of the Ligue Nord-Américaine de Hockey. Throughout his career, Giroux has demonstrated an unwavering commitment to the game, often taking on a leadership role and providing a spark to his teams. His lasting legacy is one of hard work, perseverance, and a passion for the sport he loves.
