Born on April 10, 1983, to parents Mark and Cheryl Dost, both retired teachers, Andrew grew up in Cass City and Frankfort, Michigan. He graduated as valedictorian from Frankfort High School in 2001 and later earned a degree in journalism from Central Michigan University in 2005.
Andrew's musical journey began with the indie rock band Anathallo, formed in 2000 at Central Michigan University. He joined the band in 2003 and contributed to their unique sound until 2006, when he left due to the band's relocation to Chicago.
