Born as Anjamma on August 24, 1927, in Peddapuram, East Godavari district, Andhra Pradesh, India, Anjali Devi began her career as a theatre artiste before venturing into films. She changed her name to Anjani Kumari while acting in dramas, and later, director C. Pullaiah changed it to Anjali Devi.
