Dutch voice actor and radio host, best known for bringing beloved characters to life in animated films and series, and entertaining audiences on the airwaves.
Arend Langenberg, a renowned Dutch voiceover artist, radio presenter, and news anchor, left an indelible mark on the world of radio broadcasting. With a career spanning over four decades, Langenberg's distinctive voice became synonymous with news broadcasts and radio programs, earning him a special place in the hearts of millions of listeners.
Langenberg's journey in radio began in 1970 when he joined Radio Veronica, an offshore station that ceased broadcasting in 1974. This was just the starting point for the young Dutchman, who would go on to work as a news anchor for the ANP news agency, broadcasting on Hilversum I, II, and III. His talent and dedication soon earned him a transition to the NOB, where he headed the gramophone library.
In the late 1970s and early 1980s, Langenberg's voice became a familiar fixture on Radio 538 and Sky Radio, where he presented news programs on weekends. His passion for reading and presenting led him to take on more responsibilities, eventually becoming the head of the news department at the Sky Radio Group. This was a turning point in his career, as he began to lend his voice to various other programs and commercials, including the popular crime reporter program, "Peter R. de Vries".
Langenberg's authoritative voice and distinctive tone made him a sought-after voiceover artist. He brought gravitas and credibility to his narration, making him the go-to voice for documentaries, commercials, and films. One of his most notable roles was as the newscaster in the 2009 feature film, "Sinterklaas en de Verdwenen Pakjesboot", directed by Martijn van Nellestijn.
In 2008, Langenberg was diagnosed with colorectal cancer, which forced him to take a break from his duties. However, his determination and passion for his work led him to continue working, even during his treatment. Tragically, he succumbed to the disease on December 30, 2012, at the age of 63. Langenberg's legacy lives on through his work, which continues to inspire and entertain generations of radio listeners.
Throughout his career, Langenberg received numerous awards and accolades for his contributions to radio broadcasting. While he may not have sought to draw attention to himself, his work earned him a special place in the hearts of his listeners, who will always remember him as the voice of authority and the face of Dutch radio.
