Barbara Ruth Greenberg, aka Barbara Delinsky, was born on August 8, 1945, in Boston, Massachusetts. After graduating from Newton High School in 1963, she went on to earn a B.A. in Psychology from Tufts University and an M.A. in Sociology at Boston College.
