A Swiss singer-songwriter and performer known for his soulful voice and heartfelt pop-rock music, often compared to artists like Jack Johnson and Jason Mraz.
Bastian Baker, born Bastien Kaltenbacher, is a Swiss singer-songwriter who has taken the music industry by storm with his soulful voice and catchy tunes. With a career spanning over a decade, Baker has released several successful albums, collaborated with international artists, and has even made a mark in the world of hockey.
Baker was born on May 20, 1991, in Lausanne, Switzerland, to a professional hockey player father, Bruno Kaltenbacher. Growing up, Baker was interested in both music and hockey, and he played for the Swiss National Leagues Juniors Elite A side Lausanne 4 Clubs under his real name, Bastien Kaltenbacher.
However, it was music that eventually won Baker's heart. He joined the school choir in Villeneuve and was given solo roles, which caught the attention of a music producer who offered to produce his songs. In 2011, Baker released his debut single, "Lucky," which charted on the Swiss Singles Chart.
Baker's debut album, "Tomorrow May Not Be Better," was released in 2011 and reached No. 3 on the Swiss album charts, topping the Romandie Charts. This success earned him the Best Breaking Act award at the Prix Walo, the official Swiss Music Awards in French language, in 2012.
After his success in Switzerland, Baker's album was released in France in 2012, and his single "Lucky" became a hit in the country. He was soon invited to perform on French television's "Taratata" and took part in season 3 of "Danse avec les stars," a French version of "Dancing with the Stars."
In 2018, Baker was the opening act for all 77 dates of Shania Twain's "Now Tour." He also had the opportunity to perform "Party for Two" with Twain during her set.
In a surprising move, Baker signed a one-year contract with HCV Martigny, a third-tier ice hockey team in the MySports League, in 2020. Although he didn't pursue hockey as a full-time career, Baker's love for the sport remains strong.
Baker was born to Bruno Kaltenbacher and school teacher Magali, and has two sisters, Margaux and Marine. His family has been supportive of his music career, and his sister Marine is also pursuing a music career.
With a successful music career and a brief stint in hockey, Bastian Baker has proven that he's a talented and versatile artist who can excel in multiple fields.
