Ben Jelen is a Scottish-born American singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist known for his emotive piano-driven melodies and poignant lyrics, which captured the hearts of many in the early 2000s. Jelen was born on July 8, 1979, and has lived in Scotland, England, Texas, New Jersey, and New York. He attended high school in San Antonio, Texas, and later graduated from Princeton High School in Princeton, New Jersey. He then went on to earn a degree in biology from Rutgers University.
Jelen's music career took off when he was discovered by Joseph Janus of Fearless Management, who initially wanted to sign him as a model. However, Jelen handed him a demo, and shortly thereafter, he was signed to Maverick Records and released Give It All Away in May 2004. The album debuted at No. 1 on the Top Heatseekers chart and reached No. 113 on the Billboard 200 albums chart.
Following his debut album, Jelen left Maverick Records and went on to release music independently. However, as of 2011, he has been on indefinite hiatus from his solo career and has been working with a new band, Under The Elephant, along with former Deuce Project member Josh McMillan.
