Benjamin Jeffrey Utecht, fondly known as Ben Utecht, is a former American football player turned singer, who made a name for himself in the National Football League (NFL) as a tight end for the Indianapolis Colts and Cincinnati Bengals.
Utecht's football journey began when he signed as an undrafted free agent with the Indianapolis Colts in 2004. Despite not seeing much action in his initial seasons, he went on to become a vital part of the team, earning a Super Bowl ring with the Colts in Super Bowl XLI against the Chicago Bears.
His best season was in 2006, where he made 37 receptions for 377 yards, and in the postseason, he had 5 receptions for 41 yards. The following year, he caught 31 receptions for 364 yards and a touchdown. Utecht's impressive performance led to him becoming a restricted free agent in the 2008 offseason.
After suffering his fifth concussion during practice with the Cincinnati Bengals, Utecht decided to hang up his cleats and focus on his second passion – music. He had always maintained an interest in performing throughout high school, college, and his professional football career.
Utecht's singing career took off, and he went on to release his debut album, Ben Utecht, in 2014. The album's lead single, "You Will Always Be Mine," reached the top 40 on the Billboard Christian Airplay chart. Utecht was born on June 30, 1981, in Hastings, Minnesota. He graduated from Hastings Senior High School, where he helped lead the Raiders to a State Semi-Final appearance. He then went on to play college football at the University of Minnesota, starting 35 of 44 games and playing in the Music City Bowl.
