Edrich made his debut in first-class cricket for Norfolk in the Minor Counties at the age of 16. He qualified for Middlesex in 1937 and went on to score over 2,000 runs in his first full season. On August 12, 1941, he participated in a low-level daylight attack on power stations in the Cologne area, which was described as the RAF's most audacious and dangerous low-level bombing raid.
After the war, Edrich returned to cricket and continued to achieve great success. In 1947, he scored 1,315 runs at an average of 65.75, including three centuries, to help Middlesex win the County Championship. He also played football as an amateur for Norwich City and Tottenham Hotspur during the 1930s.
