Bizarre, born Rufus Johnson on July 5, 1976, is an American rapper best known for his work with the Detroit-based hip hop group D12. As a member of this influential collective, Bizarre has left an indelible mark on the music industry, blending humor, satire, and unapologetic storytelling.
Growing up in Detroit, Michigan, Bizarre was raised by his single mother. He discovered his passion for rap in the fifth grade, and his teacher, fascinated by his soliloquies, nicknamed him "Bizarre." This moniker stuck, and soon he was performing at local clubs, including The Shelter in Saint Andrews Hall, where rap battles were a regular occurrence.
In 1995, Bizarre joined forces with neighborhood friends DeShaun "Proof" Holton, Karnail "Bugz" Pitts, Carlos "Fuzz Scoota" Rabb, Willie "Eye Kyu" Drake, and Von "Kuniva" Carlisle to form the group D12. This collective of misfits was later joined by Marshall "Eminem" Mathers, courtesy of Proof's introduction.
Bizarre's career took off in the late 1990s with D12's debut EP, The Underground EP, in 1997. He also released his solo EP, Attack of the Weirdos, the same year. These projects showcased his unique blend of humor, darkness, and lyrical complexity.
