Bobby G was born on August 23, 1953, in Epsom, Surrey, England. After leaving school at 14, he ventured into various trades, most notably construction, where he gained valuable knowledge from his father, a seasoned builder. He eventually set up his own building business in his late teens.

In 1979, Bobby G began touring pubs and clubs as a solo singer-guitarist.
