Born on August 18, 1992, in Belgrade, Serbia, Bogdanović began playing organized basketball at a young age. He started his career with KK Zvezdara, a local club in Belgrade, before moving to itko Basket (now known as Alimenti Basket) in 2008. Under the guidance of coach Dragan Jakovljević, Bogdanović helped his team secure third place in the 2009-10 Junior Serbian League.
In 2010, Bogdanović joined FMP's junior team, where he played alongside talented players like Nenad Miljenović and Stefan Popovski-Turanjanin. His impressive performance at the Nike International Junior Tournament (NIJT) in Paris helped FMP reach the final, although they eventually lost to INSEP.
The Phoenix Suns selected Bogdanović with the 27th overall pick in the 2014 NBA draft, but his draft rights were traded to the Sacramento Kings during the 2016 NBA draft.
