Rodrguez's football journey began in his hometown of Salto, Uruguay, where he started playing for local club Cerro in the Primera División. His impressive showings caught the attention of Rentistas, who signed him in 2007. A year later, he moved to Tacuarembó, and subsequently joined Peñarol in 2009.
