Born on June 10, 1962, Sutter was selected 17th overall by the New York Islanders in the 1980 NHL Entry Draft. He went on to play 18 seasons in the NHL, split between the Islanders and the Chicago Blackhawks, amassing an impressive 829 points (363 goals, 466 assists) in 1,111 regular season games.
Sutter's playing career was punctuated by numerous accolades, including two Stanley Cup championships with the Islanders in 1982 and 1983, and an NHL All-Star appearance.
