Brian Billick is a name synonymous with success in the National Football League (NFL). As the former head coach of the Baltimore Ravens, he led the team to their first-ever Super Bowl victory in 2001, cementing his place in NFL history.
Born on February 28, 1954, in Fairborn, Ohio, Billick grew up in Redlands, California, with five siblings. He was an athletic prodigy, playing both football and basketball at Redlands High School, where his football jersey number was eventually retired in 2001.
Billick started his college career as a linebacker at the United States Air Force Academy before transferring to Brigham Young University, where he played tight end. In his senior season, he earned all-Western Athletic Conference honors and an All-America honorable mention.
Billick was drafted by the San Francisco 49ers in the 11th round of the 1977 NFL Draft but was released before playing a single game. He was then signed and released by the Dallas Cowboys, ultimately retiring without playing in a regular season game.
Billick began his coaching career as a volunteer wide receivers coach at the University of Redlands before becoming an assistant coach at Redlands High School. He later served as a tight ends coach at Stanford University and as an assistant coach at the University of Utah.
