Brian Dennehy was an American actor of unparalleled talent, known for his iconic performances on stage, television, and film, earning him two Tony Awards, an Olivier Award, and a Golden Globe. Born on July 9, 1938, in Bridgeport, Connecticut, Dennehy was the son of Hannah Manion, a nurse, and Edward Dennehy, a wire service editor for the Associated Press. He was raised Catholic and had two brothers, Michael and Edward. Dennehy attended Chaminade High School in Mineola, New York, before entering Columbia University in New York City on a football scholarship in 1956.
Dennehy's film career was marked by memorable performances in critically acclaimed films such as First Blood (1982), Gorky Park (1983), Silverado (1985), Cocoon (1985), and FX (1986). He also delivered notable performances in Presumed Innocent (1990), Tommy Boy (1995), and Romeo + Juliet (1996).
Dennehy's work in television was equally impressive, with standout performances in Death of a Salesman (2000), for which he won the Golden Globe Award for Best Actor in a Miniseries or Television Film. He also appeared in Knight of Cups (2015) and Driveways (2020), his final film role.

Dennehy had a long-standing relationship with Chicago's Goodman Theatre, where much of his O'Neill work originated.
