Brian Leetch was born on March 3, 1968, in Corpus Christi, Texas, but grew up in Cheshire, Connecticut. His father, Jack, managed a local ice rink, where Leetch first learned to play hockey.
At Cheshire High School and later at Avon Old Farms, Leetch excelled in both hockey and baseball. He set a school record for strikeouts in a game with 19 and helped the Cheshire Rams win a state baseball championship.
