Quarterback who led the Alabama Crimson Tide to a national championship in 2021 and won the Heisman Trophy, becoming one of the most decorated college football players.
Born on July 25, 2001, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Young later moved to Pasadena, California, where he spent most of his adolescence. He attended Cathedral High School in Los Angeles before transferring to Mater Dei High School in Santa Ana, California, in 2018.
In his senior year, Young was awarded the Los Angeles Times Player of the Year and California's Gatorade Football Player of the Year, throwing for an impressive 4,528 yards and 58 touchdowns. He was also named the USA Today High School Offensive Player of the Year. Throughout his high school career, he passed for 13,520 yards and 152 touchdowns, earning him a five-star recruit ranking as the nation's top quarterback prospect and second overall recruit.
After committing to the University of Southern California (USC) initially, Young decided to play for the University of Alabama instead. In his freshman year, he was the backup to junior quarterback Mac Jones, but he still managed to make an impact, appearing in nine games and throwing his first collegiate touchdown pass against Kentucky.
In 2021, Young set the school record for most passing yards in a single game with an astonishing 559 yards. His impressive performance earned him numerous player of the year awards, including the Heisman Trophy, cementing his status as a top quarterback in the country.
In the 2023 NFL draft, Young was selected first overall by the Carolina Panthers, a testament to his exceptional skills and potential. As he begins his professional career, fans and critics alike are eagerly waiting to see what the future holds for this talented young quarterback.
Young has been friends with fellow quarterback C.J. Stroud, who plays for the Houston Texans, since their high school days in Southern California. The two continued their friendship in college and ultimately became the first two picks in the 2023 NFL draft.
As Young embarks on his professional career, he is poised to make a significant impact on the NFL. With his exceptional skills, record-breaking performances, and awards galore, the sky's the limit for this talented young quarterback.
