Williams' time with the Nets was particularly fruitful, as he led the team in rebounding for most of the 1980s. He remains the Nets' all-time leader in total rebounds (7,576), games played (635), minutes played (23,100), rebounds per game (11.9), and free throws made (2,476).
After retiring from professional basketball, Williams went on to become an assistant coach for the Portland Trail Blazers. In 2001, he was inducted into the University of Maryland's Athletic Hall of Fame, and in 2002, he was named to the ACC 50th Anniversary men's basketball team.
