Defender who plays for the Anaheim Ducks in the NHL, known for his speed, agility, and strong two-way play.
Cam Fowler is a Canadian-born American professional ice hockey defenseman and alternate captain for the Anaheim Ducks of the National Hockey League (NHL). Known for his impressive skills on the ice, Fowler was selected 12th overall by the Ducks in the 2010 NHL Entry Draft and made his NHL debut that same year.
Fowler was born on December 5, 1991, in Windsor, Ontario, to Perry and Bridget Fowler. As a dual citizen, Fowler represents the United States internationally. His father's job with the Ford Motor Company led the family to move to Farmington Hills, Michigan, before Cam's second birthday. Fowler's younger sisters, Peyton and Emily, were both born in the U.S.
Fowler attended Farmington High School, where he played baseball in addition to ice hockey. He also played travel baseball for the South Farmington Blues and had great potential to be a Division One College pitcher.
As a youth, Fowler played in the 2004 Quebec International PeeWee Hockey Tournament with the Detroit Honeybaked minor ice hockey team. Despite not being one of the strongest players on the team as a youth, Fowler's potential as a hockey player emerged during his teenage years.
Fowler was recruited by numerous National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I schools from age 14. He signed a National Letter of Intent with the University of Notre Dame in November 2008 during the early signing period. The USA Hockey National Team Development Program (USNTDP) also recruited him to their organization.
Fowler made his NHL debut with the Anaheim Ducks in 2010, becoming the youngest defenseman to play for the team at the time. He has since become a vital part of the Ducks' defense, playing in over 700 games and scoring over 300 points.
In 2010, Fowler won a gold medal as a member of the junior team at the World Junior Ice Hockey Championships. He was also a member of the 2010 Windsor Spitfires team that won the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) championship, as well as the Memorial Cup.
Fowler's younger sisters, Peyton and Emily, were both born in the U.S. His family's move to Farmington Hills, Michigan, played a significant role in his development as a hockey player.
Fowler's dual citizenship has allowed him to represent the United States internationally, a unique aspect of his career that sets him apart from other players.
Fowler's success on the ice has inspired countless young hockey players, particularly those from the Midwest region of the United States. His dedication to the sport and his perseverance in the face of adversity serve as a model for aspiring athletes.
Fowler's involvement in charitable initiatives, such as the Anaheim Ducks Foundation, has helped raise awareness and funds for various causes, including education, health, and family services.
Cam Fowler's impressive career with the Anaheim Ducks has cemented his place as one of the top defensemen in the NHL. His achievements, both on and off the ice, have inspired a new generation of hockey players and fans alike.
