A dominant defensive end and outside linebacker in the NFL, known for his speed, agility, and sack-master skills, earning him multiple Pro Bowl selections.
Cameron Wake is widely regarded as one of the most dominant defensive players in the National Football League (NFL). With a career spanning over a decade, Wake has established himself as a force to be reckoned with, earning the reputation as one of the premier edge rushers in the league.
Despite going undrafted in the 2005 NFL draft, Wake's journey to the top was far from conventional. He began his professional career with the New York Giants as an undrafted free agent, before joining the Canadian Football League's (CFL) BC Lions in 2007. It was in the CFL that Wake's star began to shine, earning the league's Most Outstanding Rookie Award and setting the stage for a remarkable NFL career.
In his two seasons with the BC Lions, Wake recorded an astonishing 39 sacks, earning Western Division All-Star honors and the Most Outstanding Defensive Player Award twice. His impressive performance in the CFL caught the attention of NFL scouts, and in 2009, Wake signed with the Miami Dolphins, where he would spend the next decade dominating defensive lines.
Throughout his illustrious career, Wake has been selected to five Pro Bowls (four as a defensive end and one as an outside linebacker) and has earned four First- or Second-Team All-Pro honors. His 98 sacks with the Dolphins rank him second all-time in club history, behind only Pro Football Hall of Famer Jason Taylor's 131 sacks. Wake's 100.5 career sacks also place him second all-time among undrafted free agents, behind John Randle's 137.5.
Born in Beltsville, Maryland, Wake grew up in the Washington, D.C. area and attended DeMatha High School in Hyattsville, Maryland. During his senior season in 1999, Wake was named The Washington Post Defensive Player of the Year. He went on to attend Pennsylvania State University, where he played for the Penn State Nittany Lions football team, finishing his collegiate career with 191 total tackles, 8.5 quarterback sacks, and 24 tackles for a loss.
Cameron Wake's remarkable career serves as a testament to his dedication, perseverance, and natural ability. As one of the most feared defensive players of his generation, Wake has inspired countless young athletes and left an indelible mark on the NFL. His legacy extends beyond his impressive statistics, as he continues to influence the game through his charitable work and community involvement.
