Cecily Adams was an American actress, casting director, and lyricist, best known for her recurring role as Ishka, also known as Moogie, the mother of the Ferengi brothers Rom and Quark, in the television series Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. Cecily April Adams was born on February 6, 1958, in Jamaica, Queens, New York City, to comic actor Don Adams and singer Adelaide Efantis. She was one of six siblings, including her brother Sean and sisters Carolyn Steele, Christine Adams, Cathy Metchik, Paramount TV executive Stacey Adams, and Beige Adams. Adams attended Beverly Hills High School, where she developed her passion for acting, and later continued her studies at the University of California at Irvine.
Adams honed her improvisational comedy skills at the Groundlings and was a member of the Acme Comedy Theater in Los Angeles. She worked as an acting coach and appeared in guest roles on various television series, including Just Shoot Me, Murphy Brown, and Party of Five, as well as alongside her father in his television series Check It Out and television movie Get Smart Again.
In 1989, Adams married actor-writer Jim Beaver, and they had a daughter in 2001. Tragically, Adams passed away on March 3, 2004, at the age of 46, due to lung cancer, despite being a nonsmoker. Her husband's memoir, Lifelong That Way, poignantly details her final months.
