Turkish fashion mogul behind the iconic Vakko and Vakko Couture brands, renowned for redefining Turkish fashion with modern, elegant designs.
Cem Hakko, a renowned Turkish fashion designer and businessman, is credited with revolutionizing the fashion industry in Turkey. As the son of Vitali Hakko, the founder of the Vakko brand, Cem Hakko took the reins and transformed the company into a global fashion powerhouse.
After completing his elementary education in Turkey, Hakko pursued higher studies at College du Leman in Geneva and graduated from high school in Strasbourg. He then went on to study at Ecole Des Hautes Etudes Internationales in Paris and Faculté de Sciences Économiques at the University of Fribourg in Switzerland.
It was during his time at the University of Fribourg that Hakko wrote his thesis, "The Fashion Concept," which analyzed the emergence and development of fashion from a scientific perspective. This thesis laid the groundwork for his future endeavors in the fashion industry.
Hakko began working with his father during his summer vacations and eventually returned to Istanbul in the early 1980s. In 1982, he established Vakkorama, a young fashion brand that not only offered clothing but also integrated fashion, art, sports, and music to create a unique lifestyle.
When Hakko took over as Chairman of the Board of Directors in 2004, the Vakko Group had 24 stores. Under his leadership, the company expanded to include W Collection, V2K, and Outlet brands, tripling the turnover and increasing the number of stores.
Hakko's vision and leadership led to the Vakko Fashion Center being built in Istanbul in 2010. This state-of-the-art facility, designed by renowned architect Joshua Prince Ramus, was awarded "The Best Work Area" by Wallpaper magazine in 2011 and "The Building of the Year" by Arch Daily.
Hakko's work is deeply rooted in his understanding of the psychosocial aspects of fashion. He believes that fashion is not just about clothing, but about creating a lifestyle that integrates art, music, and sports. This philosophy has been instrumental in shaping the Vakko brand and its offerings.
Through his work, Cem Hakko has left an indelible mark on the fashion industry in Turkey and beyond. His commitment to innovation, quality, and style has made Vakko a household name, and his legacy continues to inspire future generations of fashion designers and entrepreneurs.
