A renowned dog trainer, TV personality, and author who helps people understand and rehabilitate aggressive canine behavior through his holistic approach, making him a household name among pet owners.
Cesar Millan, a renowned Mexican-American dog trainer, is best known for his hit television series "Dog Whisperer with Cesar Millan," which has been broadcast in over 80 countries worldwide since 2004. With his unique ability to rehabilitate even the most aggressive canine behavioral problems, Millan has earned the title of "Dog Whisperer" and has become a household name.
Born on August 27, 1969, in Culiacán, Sinaloa, Mexico, Millan grew up on a farm, where he developed a natural affinity for working with animals. His grandfather, Teodoro Millán, nicknamed him "el Perrero" (the dog herder) due to his exceptional ability to handle dogs.
At the age of 21, Millan illegally crossed the border into the United States, arriving in Los Angeles with only $100 and no knowledge of English. He befriended Jada Pinkett Smith, who helped him learn English and eventually became one of his first clients and supporters.
Millan's first job in the United States was at a dog grooming store, where he honed his skills and developed his unique approach to dog training. He later founded the Pacific Point Canine Academy, which became a rehabilitation center for aggressive dogs.
In 2004, Millan's television series "Dog Whisperer with Cesar Millan" premiered, showcasing his exceptional ability to rehabilitate aggressive dogs. The show's success led to the publication of his first book, "Cesar's Way," which became a New York Times bestseller. Two more bestsellers, "Be the Pack Leader" and "A Member of the Family," followed.
In 2007, Millan founded the Millan Foundation (later renamed the Cesar Millan PACK Project) with his former wife, Illusion Millan. The foundation aims to provide financial support to animal shelters and organizations engaged in rescuing, rehabilitating, and rehoming abused and abandoned animals.
Through his foundation, Millan has also supported spay/neuter programs, working to reduce pet overpopulation and prevent animal cruelty.
In 1994, Millan became a United States citizen. He has been married twice, first to Illusion Millan (1994-2012) and then to Jahira Dar (2016-present).
Millan has two sons, André and Calvin, from his first marriage.
Cesar Millan's work has inspired countless dog owners and trainers worldwide, promoting a deeper understanding of canine behavior and psychology. His advocacy for animal welfare and his charitable work have made a significant impact on the lives of animals and humans alike.
As a testament to his legacy, Millan's approach to dog training has been widely adopted, and his television show has become a benchmark for animal-related programming.
