The breakthrough came in the Fifth and final Test of the series, where he scored a magnificent 109 and 96 in the second innings of a drawn match.

Over the course of his Test career, Borde faced injuries, including a fractured little finger on the left hand during the First Test against England in 1959. However, he continued to persevere, scoring his second century and highest Test score of 177 against Pakistan in Madras in 1960.
