Racing Career

Bakkerud's amateur career began in 2002, when he competed in the Formula BMW series. With two seasons in Germany under his belt, he shifted his focus to the British version in 2004. This marked the beginning of his journey to the top echelons of motorsports.

British Formula 3 and Formula BMW

• In 2005, Bakkerud joined the British Formula 3 series, where he finished seventh in the championship.
• The following year, he improved his ranking to sixth place, securing his first series win for Carlin at Mugello.

This milestone victory in 2006 would arguably become the highlight of his career. During this period, Bakkerud also participated in the prestigious Macau Grand Prix and the Ultimate Masters of Formula Three race.

GP2 Series: A Bittersweet Experience

In 2007, Bakkerud graduated to the GP2 Series, joining the DPR team alongside Spanish driver Andy Soucek. Despite his best efforts, the season was marred by a disappointing performance and recurring back injuries.

He moved to the Super Nova team for the 2008 GP2 Asia Series, but struggled to find consistency, retiring from all but three races. His luck didn't change in the 2008 GP2 Series, where he suffered a recurrence of his back injury, forcing him to withdraw from several races.

DTM and the Final Chapter

In 2009, Bakkerud shifted his focus to the Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters (DTM), a new challenge in his racing career. However, his untimely passing in 2011 cut short his journey, leaving behind a legacy of resilience and determination in the face of adversity.
