Cribbs' true calling, however, was coaching. He began his coaching career at Warren Consolidated High School in Tiltonsville, Ohio, where he mentored future baseball Hall of Famer Bill Mazeroski. After serving in the U.S. Navy during World War II, Cribbs became a history teacher and boys' basketball coach at Bellaire High School in Bellaire, Ohio, in 1949. He remained coach there until his retirement in 1977, amassing an impressive record of over 400 wins, including a remarkable 54-game home winning streak.
Cribbs' outstanding achievements were recognized through numerous awards and honors. He was inducted into the University of Pittsburgh Hall of Fame, as well as the Ohio Basketball Coaches Hall of Fame, Dapper Dan Hall of Fame, and Westmoreland County PA Hall of Fame.
Off the court, Cribbs led a fulfilling life, dedicating himself to his family and community. He passed away on September 14, 1985, in Bellaire, Ohio, leaving behind a legacy that continues to inspire future generations of athletes and coaches.
