Gutherson was born on September 9, 1994, in Mona Vale, New South Wales, Australia. He played his junior rugby league for the Cromer Kingfishers before being signed by the Manly Warringah Sea Eagles.
Gutherson's professional career began in 2012 when he resigned with the Manly Warringah Sea Eagles on a two-year contract. He played for the Sea Eagles' NYC team in 2012 and 2013, and made his NRL debut for Manly-Warringah against the Penrith Panthers in round 26 of the 2013 NRL season, scoring a try on debut.
In 2014, Gutherson played for the New South Wales Under-20s team against the Queensland Under-20s team, and later for the New South Wales Residents against the Queensland Residents. Although he suffered a setback due to a broken bone in his right foot, he made his return to the side as a late replacement for regular fullback Brett Stewart in Round 26.
In 2016, Gutherson joined the Parramatta Eels, where he has since become an integral part of the team, earning the nickname "The King of Parramatta" due to his impressive performances on the field.
Gutherson has played for New South Wales, City Origin side, and the Prime Ministers XIII, solidifying his position as one of the top players in the NRL.
