Craig Bartlett is a renowned American animator, writer, director, and producer, best known for creating the iconic Nickelodeon television series Hey Arnold! and the PBS Kids television series Ready Jet Go and Dinosaur Train.
Born on October 18, 1956, Bartlett's fascination with animation began at a young age. After graduating from the Evergreen State College in Olympia, Washington, he landed his first job at Will Vinton Studios in Portland, Oregon, where he honed his skills in stop-motion animation.
His early career saw him work on notable projects such as The Adventures of Mark Twain. In 1987, Bartlett relocated to Los Angeles, where he animated the Penny claymations for the second season of Peewee's Playhouse on CBS.
In the early 1990s, Bartlett met with Nickelodeon executives while story editing Rugrats during its first three seasons. This encounter led to him pitching Hey Arnold!, which was greenlit in January 1995.
The show's success was unprecedented, with Hey Arnold! running continuously from 1995 to 2001. Bartlett's production company, SneeOosh, Inc., which he founded in 1986, produced the series. The show's popularity culminated in a TV movie, Hey Arnold! The Movie, released in June 2002.
After parting ways with Nickelodeon, Bartlett wrote, directed, and produced an animated TV movie for Cartoon Network called Party Wagon. Although intended as a pilot for an ongoing series, it was instead broadcast as a standalone movie.
In addition to his work in television, Bartlett published the official novelization of the first Hey Arnold! movie in 2002.
