He also participated in the U.S. Invasion of Panama in 1989 and remained in the reserves for another six and a half years.
Morgan's music career began in 2000 with the release of his self-titled debut album on Atlantic Records. After the label's Nashville division closed, he signed with Broken Bow Records, releasing three studio albums: I Love It (2003), My Kind of Livin' (2005), and Little Bit of Life (2006). These albums spawned several chart-topping hits, including the iconic "That's What I Love About Sunday," which spent four weeks at the top of the Billboard country charts.
In 2008, Morgan released a greatest hits package, followed by That's Why on BNA Records. He later signed with Black River Entertainment, releasing This Ole Boy in 2012 and A Whole Lot More to Me in 2016.
