Goalkeeper who played for several Italian clubs, including Roma and Fiorentina, and earned 5 international caps for Italy.
Cristiano Lupatelli, the Italian professional football coach and former player, is known for his exceptional goalkeeping skills and distinctive appearance, featuring a trademark goatee and sideburns with a bald head.
Lupatelli's impressive career began at A.S. Roma, where he won a Scudetto in the 2000-01 season. As a Roma youth product, he was loaned to Chievo for the 2001-02 and 2002-03 seasons, before being sold to Chievo for 3 billion Italian lire in a co-ownership deal in 2002.
He returned to Roma in the 2003-04 season as the backup to Ivan Pelizzoli, wearing the number 10 jersey, a unique occurrence for a goalkeeper, due to a bet he made with friends.
Lupatelli then joined Fiorentina on a free transfer in the summer of 2004, becoming a regular feature in the first team during the 2004-05 season. However, after the arrival of Sébastien Frey in 2005, Bogdan Lobon in the 2006-07 season, and Vlada Avramov in 2007, he became the club's third-choice keeper and was loaned out to Parma during the 2005-06 season.
Whilst on loan at Parma F.C., he was exchanged with Matteo Guardalben mid-season. In September 2008, he joined Cagliari on a free transfer, acting as a deputy to Federico Marchetti.
After retiring from football in 2015, Lupatelli transitioned into coaching, becoming the goalkeeping coach of newly formed Serie C club Juventus U23 in 2018.
This new chapter in his career marks a new era for Lupatelli, as he continues to share his expertise and experience with the next generation of goalkeepers.
