Dan Boyle is a Canadian former professional ice hockey defenceman who made a name for himself in the National Hockey League (NHL) despite being undrafted. With a professional career spanning over 17 years, Boyle played for prominent teams such as the Florida Panthers, Tampa Bay Lightning, San Jose Sharks, and New York Rangers, winning the coveted Stanley Cup in 2004 with the Lightning.
Boyle's journey to the NHL was unconventional, to say the least. Despite playing junior hockey for the Gloucester Rangers of the Canadian Junior Hockey League, he wasn't drafted into the NHL. However, he went on to sign with Miami University of the CCHA to play college hockey. It was here that Boyle established himself as a force to be reckoned with, making the first-team All-Rookie team in 1994-95, the All-CCHA First Team in 1996-97 and 1997-98, and being named a first-team All-American in both 1997 and 1998.
In 1998, Boyle was signed as a free agent by the Florida Panthers, where he spent two seasons in the American Hockey League (AHL) before earning a full-time roster spot in 2000-01. After a brief stint with the Panthers, Boyle was traded to the Tampa Bay Lightning in 2002, where he won the Stanley Cup in 2004. He went on to play for the San Jose Sharks and New York Rangers before retiring in 2016.
