Dan Butler is an American actor known for his iconic role as Bob Bulldog Briscoe on the hit TV series Frasier (1993-2004), as well as his voice work as Mr. Simmons on the Nickelodeon show Hey Arnold! (1997-2002) and its sequel, Hey Arnold!: The Jungle Movie (2017).
Butler was born on December 2, 1954, in Huntington, Indiana, and raised in Fort Wayne. He is the son of Shirley, a homemaker, and Andrew Butler, a pharmacist. During his time as a drama student at Purdue University Fort Wayne in 1975, he received the prestigious Irene Ryan Acting Scholarship, sponsored by the Kennedy Center. From 1976 to 1978, he honed his craft at the American Conservatory Theater in San Francisco.
Butler's most notable role is that of Bob Bulldog Briscoe, a boorish and macho sports presenter on Frasier. He appeared in every season but one between 1993 and 2004, becoming an integral part of the show's cast. In addition to his acting work, Butler also directed one episode during season five of Frasier.
