Eastlake's broadcasting career took off in 1982 when he joined the Nine Network, commentating on the weightlifting at the 1982 Commonwealth Games. He went on to provide commentary for Nine's Wide World of Sports, covering events like State of Origin and working alongside notable personalities such as Ken Sutcliffe, Ray Warren, and Mike Gibson.
Eastlake's over-the-top voice and antics, aimed at raising the excitement of listeners or viewers, became his trademark. His style was often parodied, including by Billy Birmingham in his The Twelfth Man sporting commentary impersonations.
He is best remembered for presenting broadcasts of the 500cc Motorcycle World Championship alongside former Grand Prix motorcycle racing World Champion Barry Sheene, and for presenting Formula One races with former Formula One World Champion Alan Jones. He also presented the British Open Golf championships, cementing his status as a versatile and knowledgeable commentator.
In 1993, Eastlake suffered a heart attack while commentating at Kurrawa on the Gold Coast for the Australian Open of Surfing. Despite this setback, he continued to work in broadcasting until his passing in 2018.
