David Thirdkill, also known as "The Sheriff," is a retired American basketball player who made a name for himself in the NBA and later became a dominant force in international basketball, earning the 1993 Israeli Basketball Premier League MVP title.
Selected by the Phoenix Suns in the first round (15th overall) of the 1982 NBA draft, Thirdkill played in five NBA seasons from 1982 to 1987. During his time in the league, he played for the Suns, Detroit Pistons, Milwaukee Bucks, San Antonio Spurs, and Boston Celtics, earning a championship ring with the 1985-86 Celtics.
One of his most notable performances came on January 24, 1986, when he scored a career-high 20 points and grabbed a career-high 8 rebounds in a 135-114 win over the Golden State Warriors. Throughout his NBA career, Thirdkill played in 179 games and scored a total of 510 points.
After leaving the NBA, Thirdkill took his talents to the international stage, playing in various countries including the Philippines, Italy, France, and Israel. In 1987, he played for the Tanduay Rhum Masters team in the Philippine Basketball Association and won the championship, earning the title of Best Import of the conference.
In 1988, he returned to the Philippines to play for the Purefoods team, leading them to another finals appearance. He then went on to play for Virtus Roma in Italy and Chorale Roanne Basket and Saint-Quentin BasketBall in France.
However, it was in Israel where Thirdkill truly made his mark, playing for Hapoel Tel Aviv for five years and becoming the 1993 Israeli Basketball Premier League MVP. He finally retired in 1996, leaving behind a legacy as one of the most successful international basketball players of his time.
