Vborn's hockey career took off in 1992 when he joined Sparta Prague in the Czech Extraliga. As a teenager, he scored an impressive 20 goals and 44 points in 52 games, catching the attention of the Edmonton Oilers, who picked him up in the second round of the 1993 NHL Entry Draft.
