Dean Saunders is renowned for being a prolific striker in the world of football, having played for top-tier clubs like Liverpool and Aston Villa in the 1990s. With a career spanning from 1982 to 2001, Saunders set a new British transfer record when he joined Liverpool from Derby County, making him a household name in Welsh and English football.
Saunders was born on June 21, 1964, in Swansea, Wales. He began his footballing journey with his hometown club, Swansea City, where his father, Roy, had played and coached. Saunders signed as an apprentice in 1980 and turned professional in the summer of 1982.
Saunders' big break came when he moved to Brighton & Hove Albion in 1985, where he scored 14 league goals in his first season. His success at the Goldstone Ground earned him a move to Oxford United in 1987, where he helped the team secure First Division survival.
Saunders made his debut for Wales in 1986 and went on to earn 75 caps, scoring 22 goals, making him one of the nation's highest-scoring and most-capped players of all time.
