Born on September 8, 1914, in Kensington, London, Lasdun was the son of Nathan Lasdun and Julie (née Abrahams). His grandfather, Louis Abrahams, a tobacconist, was a patron of the Heidelberg School art movement, and his art collection was passed down to Lasdun.
After serving in the army during World War II, Lasdun worked with Berthold Lubetkin's Tecton practice, becoming a partner. He completed his first private house in Paddington, designed in Le Corbusier's style. Later, he collaborated with Lindsay Drake on the Hallfield Estate, a project planned by Lubetkin and Tecton.
