Didd was born Sigrn Hjlmtsdttir on August 8, 1955, in Reykjavk, Iceland, to a bank clerk father, Hjlmtr E. Hjlmtsson, and a writer mother, Margrt Matthasdttir. She was the second of seven children and grew up in a culturally rich environment that nurtured her passion for music.
She pursued her musical education at the Reykjavk College of Music and later at the prestigious Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London, where she earned a degree in 1979-1984 and a postgraduate diploma in 1985. Additionally, she received private singing lessons in Italy between 1987 and 1988.
Didd launched her singing career as a vocalist with the popular folk and pop group Spilverk janna between 1975 and 1978, recording numerous folk and popular music albums. She then transitioned to classical music, focusing on Lieder and operas.
Her extensive opera repertoire includes performances as Susanna in The Marriage of Figaro, Gilda in Rigoletto, Papagena and the Queen of the Night in The Magic Flute, Lucia in Lucia di Lammermoor, Violetta in La traviata, Adina in Lelisir damore, and Rosalinda in Die Fledermaus.
She has also been a guest singer in notable productions, such as Susanna in The Marriage of Figaro in Trondheim, Norway, and Gilda in Rigoletto in Gothenburg, Sweden, in 1992. Furthermore, she played the role of Olympia in Les contes dHoffmann at the National Theatre of Iceland in Reykjavk.
In 1994, Didd made her screen debut in Bdagar (Movie Days), a film directed by Fririk r Fririksson, playing the role of a mother living in the 1950s.
