His fascination with the guitar was further solidified when he witnessed Chet Atkins' performance on the Perry Como Show at the age of 13. Atkins, a legendary guitarist, would later become a mentor and collaborator, shaping Klugh's style and tone.
Klugh's professional career took off at the tender age of 15 with his first recording on Yusef Lateef's Suite 16. He went on to play with George Benson on his White Rabbit album and later joined Benson's touring band in 1973. This exposure led to collaborations with other notable musicians, including Bob James, with whom he won a Grammy for Best Pop Instrumental Performance for their album One on One in 1981.
Klugh has since released over 30 albums, with 23 Top Ten charting records, including five number one albums on Billboard's Jazz Album chart. His 2008 album, The Spice of Life, earned him his 12th Grammy nomination.
