However, his NHL debut was imminent, and on February 21, 2008, the Kings recalled Ersberg from Manchester, making him the first Swedish-born goaltender in Los Angeles Kings franchise history.
On February 23, 2008, Ersberg made his NHL debut against the Chicago Blackhawks at Staples Center in Los Angeles, California. Although the Kings ultimately lost the game, Ersberg's performance was commendable, and he went on to make a total of 54 appearances in the NHL.
