Born on June 22, 1943, in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil, Deodato's musical journey began at the age of 12 with the accordion, followed by piano lessons two years later. He studied orchestration, conducting, and arranging, and soon found himself playing bossa nova with bands featuring Paulo Silvino and Orlandivo.
In the early 1960s, Deodato formed his own band, which included notable musicians such as Joo Palma, Sergio Barroso, Ugo Marotta, Henri Ackselrud, and guitarist Celso Brando, who was later replaced by Roberto Menescal.
Deodato's big break came with the release of his album Prelude in 1973, which featured the hit single "Also Sprach Zarathustra 2001." This crossover track peaked at number 2 on the Billboard Hot 100, earning him a Grammy Award for Best Pop Instrumental Performance in 1974.
