Freya Lim, also known as Freya Lin, was born on November 20, 1979, to a Chinese Malaysian father and a Taiwanese mother. She pursued her higher education at the University of Washington in Seattle, majoring in Psychology, and graduated in 2002. Later, she went on to pursue a master's degree in Applied Communication at Boston University.
Lim's singing talent was discovered by Taiwan's well-known music producer Benjamin Lin Ming Yang in 1999. She was singing at a KTV with her friends when Benjamin chanced upon her voice, and she was subsequently signed on to Whats Music International Incorporated.
In 2000, Lim released her debut music album titled Freya, which featured the hit single "Living Alone". The album achieved an astounding sales record of 120,000 copies in Taiwan and occupied Taiwan music charts for more than six months.
Lim's debut album earned her a nomination for Best New Artist at the 2001 Golden Melody Awards and won her the Best Newcomer Bronze at the 2001 Singapore Hit Awards.
In addition to her music career, Lim has also ventured into acting and radio hosting. She was involved in the musical play Love Mileage, which was staged at Taiwan Huashan Arts Centre in 2009. She is currently working as a radio DJ in BCC.
