Jenkins was born on July 21, 1974, in Oakland, California. Jenkins enrolled at the University of Southern California (USC), where he played college baseball for the USC Trojans from 1993 to 1995. During his time at USC, Jenkins racked up impressive statistics, including a .369 batting average, 45 home runs, and 180 runs scored. His outstanding performance earned him a spot on the 1995 College World Series (CWS) all-tournament team, as well as consensus All-American honors.

Jenkins made his major league debut on April 14, 1998, with the Brewers, starting in right field. Over the course of his 13-year career, Jenkins played for the Brewers (1998-2007) and Philadelphia Phillies (2008). He retired in 2008, finishing with a respectable .275 batting average, 221 home runs, and 732 runs batted in (RBIs).
After retiring from baseball, Jenkins transitioned to coaching, serving on the staff of the 2013 Peoria Explorers of the Independent Freedom Pro Baseball League.
