Born on February 28, 1978, Arend is the son of Geoffrey D. Arend Sr., an American of German and English descent, and Sabiha Khan Arend, a Pakistani mother. He graduated from New York City's esteemed Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School of Music & Art and Performing Arts in 1996. Arend's early career began with a voice role as the obnoxious flirt Charles "Upchuck" Ruttheimer III on the popular animated television series Daria, which he voiced from 1998 to 2002.
